Video Game Vampires

February 27, 2023 — For those interested in video game history, we unveil a 37-year legacy of digital vampires. They have long been a popular theme and will continue to play a significant role in future titles.

The Game That Started It All

Vampires have profoundly impacted the video game industry since the release of Castlevania in 1986. Japanese publisher Konami introduced players to their version of Count Dracula in this classic game. However, Dracula doesn’t show up until the game’s climax, in which he catalyzes protagonist Simon Belmont’s journey into a Gothic castle.

Others Who Followed

Castlevania is not the only video game with a central theme of vampires. Vampire the Masquerade, Legacy of Kain, Soul Reaver, and Bloodrayne have all explored different aspects of nightly lore, offering a range of experiences for players of different generations.

While more recent titles such as Dark, Vampire Rain, and Vampyr have tried to tap into the enduring popularity of vampires, they have not achieved notable success.

Undoubtedly, vampires will continue to be a popular theme in video games for years to come.

Dracula Twins

Legendo Games is set to release Dracula Twins R2: School’s Out, a retro platformer that follows the adventures of the vampire twins Drac and Dragana as they battle werewolves, zombies, and other horrors in Transylvania and Castle Moonskull.

Dracula Twins R2: School’s Out offers a more charming take on the classic vampire story, allowing players to switch between five characters in both single-player and co-op modes.
